Gustavo to Fight for CFC Title March 12th 2010
Gustavo is heading to Sydney this week where he will be facing Sydney’s Ritchie Vas, a professional big wave surfer who is currently undefeated in MMA, as they put it all on the line when they go head to head for the coveted Bantam weight title.
Also competing is Cameron Murcutt in the 84kg divison up against Adam Celestino from SPMA.
Best of luck to both guys and looking forward to Gustavo bringing home the belt!!!
Training with Randy Couture
Mach 1 Fitness Owner and Head Trainer Habby Heske recently travelled to Melbourne to attend the Randy Couture seminer being held at Extreme Bjj in Chadstone.
Randy took extra time out of his trip for UFC 110 to come down to Melbourne to spend time with John Donahue (Extreme Bjj Owner/Coach) and conduct this seminar, which was held open to all enthusiasts, irrespective of their affiliations.

Also present for the event were NRL and AFL stars such as Carlton captain Chris Judd along with Richard Hadley and Chris Johnson. Jarryd Roughead and Jordan Lewis from Hawthorn, Troy Simmonds and Jake King from Richmond and Brett White and Cooper Cronk from the Melbourne Storm. The Legend Bob Jones also came down to spectate and get a pic and meet Randy. Channel 10, The Herald Sun and Foxtel TV media were also there to record this momentous occasion.

Randy started the night off with pummeling, quickly transitioning this practical exercise into slips, duck unders and some guard passing- just to name a few techniques. He then went on to talk about how he prepares mentally for his fights and his outlook on the sport and it’s future. The refreshing thing about training closely with Randy is how he moves in the exact same fashion as how he fights in the UFC – amazing to be part of!

After training Randy opened the floor to questions to the 100 plus participants and spectators, never showing any sign of not wanting to answer any more questions and making sure that everyone who wanted a photo with him got one – he could never spend too much time doing anything for anyone!

A huge thanks from all of us to Randy Couture and John Donehue for organising this event, a once in a lifetime opportunity for many people to be in the presence of greatness.

Tough decision loss for Gustavo at Shooto

Gustavo Falciroli took on Issei Tamura on the Shooto: Revolutionary Exchanges 3 card at JCB Hall in Japan tonight. Unfortunately for the Australian based Brazilian, he ended up on the losing side of a judges decision.

The loss takes Gustavo’s record to 8-2 (2 draws), while for Tamura it takes him to 5-0.

Gustavo Falciroli fighting 23rd Nov in Shooto Revolutionary Exchanges 3

Gustavo Falciroli will be putting his current six-win streak on the line today in Shooto’s Revolutionary Exchanges 3 card to be held at the JCB Hall in Japan.  His opponent, Issei Tamura, is a rising star from the Krazy Bee camp sporting an unblemished record of 4-0.

Falciroli is coming off a convincing victory over Daisuke Ishizawa in Shooto’s Revolutionary Exchanges September ‘09 card having won by armbar at 4:55 in the first round.  The victory put Falciroli fifth spot in the Shooto Lightweight rankings and another victory will surely put him closer to Pacific Rim title contention.

The card will also feature a Shooto World title bout for the Flyweight Championship with Noboru “Shinpei” Tahara (7-3-1) facing off against Rambaa “M-16” Somdet (6-2-0).  And with Shooto and Pancrase finally making peace after the International Shooto Commision revoking Pancrase’s Shooto license seven years ago, several fights will show the rival promotions squaring off against each other.

All fighters have made weight This is surely a card not to miss.

Congrats to Xavier & Gustavo on their Shooto Win

The Following is courtesy of Sherdog.com

A minute into Xavier Lucas’ Pacific Rim 167-pound title defense, it became clear he was inside Akihiro Yamazaki’s head. Yamazaki circled, threw low kicks and fell to his back whenever Lucas was close enough to throw his hands. Knowing he did not want to go to the ground, Lucas let Yamazaki back up, biding his time until he could counter and drop him with punches whenever he caught Yamazaki’s low kicks. Yamazaki grew more desperate as the fight wore on, falling at almost every glancing blow that Lucas landed. He was unable to take the champion down, let alone maintain balance under fire, as Lucas retained his title with a unanimous decision -- 30-28, 30-28 and 30-27 on the scorecards.

Despite being knocked down early, patience and grappling acumen carried Gustavo Falciroli to a submission victory over Daisuke Ishizawa. After sweeping Ishizawa, Falciroli worked ground-and-pound until he secured mount and locked a triangle from the top. As Ishizawa moved to escape, Falciroli pulled out an arm for the tapout 4:55 into the first period.

Xavier Lucas & Gustavo Falciroli climbing the Shooto Rankings

On the 22nd of this month two fighters based in Perth, West Australia and fighting out of Mach 1 in Osborne Park will feature on a Shooto card at the home of Shooto, Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.   Xavier Lucas is currently world ranked 2 in the latest official Shooto rankings. He will defend his Pacific Rim Belt against Akihiro Yamazaki. Yamazaki has not been defeated since June 2005 and holds a record of 11 wins, 2 losses and a draw. 6 wins have come from submission.   Gustavo Falcioli gets his chance to consolidate his recent rise up the Shooto world rankings to number 7 with a bout against Daisuke Ishizawa. This fight will leave nothing to the imagination as Ishizawa has never lost by decision and all of his 4 wins have been TKO or KO via strikes, a very tough boy.   A win for Xavier will raise the question of a world title bout. Shinya Aoki holds the belt.   A win for Gustavo will certainly push him further up the recently depleted upper echelons (departures to bigger organizations) of the lightweight division. Potentially, 2 fights away from a world title challenge.   Very interesting times for MMA in Australia and shows the benefits for fighters and promoters of committing to a system that can provide opportunities on a world stage.

Fighting under full A-Class rules will see BJJ Blackbelt and fan favourite Gustavo Falciroli taking on his toughest opponent yet in Dream FeatherWeight contender and dynamic striker ‘Wicky’ Akiyo in the main event.

Brazilian born Gustavo Falciroli with only one loss to his name and an incredible ground game is coming off a huge KO win over crafty shooto veteran Masahiro ‘The Jackal” Oishi under Qld’s Rize promotion.  Gustavo hopes to keep his winning momentum going while lately preferring to finish his opponents with his shotgun righthand.

‘Wicky’ Akiyo at only 26 years old brings a wealth of experience to the fight along with his unorthodox fighting style. Having fought in top Japanese promotions he is yet to be submitted or KO’ed in over 15 professional fights. ‘Wicky’ will look to upset the Brazilian badboy with his top striking and ground defense.

Also fighting is Qld based Coby Jones training out of 5 Rings Dojo who will face southwest MMA fighter and big wave surfer Sean Spooner in what will be a cracker at middleweight.

Perth’s own crazy hat wearing Wes “The Decapitater” Capper will square off against Boochu Thai boxer Ryan Mitchell trained by the famous JWP.

Undefeated pro boxing sensation Erin McGowan will take on Queenslander Eileen Forrest who with over 15 pro fights and has promised to break Erin’s winning streak. Both girls know that a win would place them at the top of Australia’s rankings.

SuperFighter Australia Results

Well guys it was a huge night once again as SuperFight Australia pulled out all the big guns and delivered a stacked end of year card featuring 11 MMA action packed fights.

Arena Joondalup provided the perfect setting for this event with its tiered seating and open floor space allowing great views.

Ryan Scott (Academy) vs Kurt McLaughlin (Eclipse MA)

Great first fight with both guys coming out hard from the bell. Ryan using his reach and knee's to tag his opponent, while Kurt threw some heavy punches that connected well.

Ryan’s reach advantage in the thai clinch was doing him well as he put Kurt down for an 8 count after a series of knees. Kurt recovered well and came back aggressively with a big right hook and close guillotine attempt, before securing a rear choke for the submission win.

Chris Indich (Beston Gracie) vs Michael Turner (SA)

Another fantastic fight as these two heavyweights put on a wrestling and ground n pound display. After a brief clinch the fight went to the ground where Chris showed some very heavy hands and a tight anaconda choke attempt.

Again on the ground Chris was holding the dominant position well with a strong sprawl and tight head lock while working the knees.

The 2nd round saw Michael come out quick using his thai clinch and long kicks well and Chris replying with huge hooks. Non stop action in this round with both guys giving it their all before Chris Indich managed to get on top position in the half guard and land big shots until the ref stopped the fight with only seconds to go.

Nathan Frost (Academy) vs Guy Hennequin (Boxing Works)

Very fast lightweight match with both guys throwing everything they had from the opening bell. A clinch and scramble got the fight on the ground where Nathan showed some beautiful Bjj and locked in a triangle choke but Guy replied with a slam that Nathan shut down well by under hooking the leg and transitioning for the armbar win.

Scott Mapley vs Michael Morcombe

Michael goes in straight for the clinch after a big push kick attempt and gets his opponent Scott to the ground where he passes guard and secures mount while throwing punches. Scott rolls to turtle and Michael gets his hooks in but cant finish the choke when Scott stands up with Mike on his back causing the ref to separate for a stand up.

Scott use’s his striking well but Mike gets a good hip throw that puts his opponent down again before Michael locks on a very tight armbar that gets him the win.

Connell Sinclair vs Cameron Murcutt

These two 93kg Heavy hitters square off and get straight into it. Connell being the more experienced fighter and this being Cams pro debut didn’t seem to matter as Cameron turned up the pressure early with some great big right hands and strong clinch work.

Cameron being the more aggressive fighter using his loopy overhand right to good effect before throwing a right straight down the middle to catch Connell on the chin for the KO win in the 1st round.

Isaac Tisdell vs Zac Lawson

Both guys come out cautious to start with before Isaac starts works his leg kicks well and Zac begins stalk his opponent and letting his hands fly. Zac has a nice guillotine attempt that he turns into a strong takedown to side control. With Zac’s superior wrestling he maintains some great ground control moving into mount before Isaac rolls and gives his back before a desperate back slam to get Zac off leads to the rear choke being locked in for Zac’s 2nd pro win.

Alex Shevstov vs  Tatsuro Kamei

Very tough fight for both guys. Tatsuro working his guard game beautifully while attempting triangles and gogopalata’s, only to be defended consistently by Alex then back to standing again. Very hard fight to call with fantastic Bjj from the Japanese opponent but Alex showed very good defense to shut down all sub attempts as it went to the judge’s decision. A little controversial as ref and judges seemed to get the score cards mixed up before giving the win to Tatsuro for a tough effort. Very close could have gone either way.

Tony Rossini vs Wes Capper

Another high quality fight with Tony showing very tough wrestling ability and an incredible sprawl that made any takedown attempts by Wes very difficult. Wes looked great standing, however Tony managed to work his body locks and secure numerous takedowns to score the unanimous win and fight of the night.

Sean Spooner vs David Tudori

Middleweight fight with both guys coming out aggressive in the opening minute before a large cut over Sean’s right eye threatened to stop the fight early. After a doctor’s check of the cut Sean came back hard using his reach well and nice upperbody clinch to get the takedown.

On the ground Sean took Dave’s back with both guys almost falling out the ring while rolling and David continually defending the choke before Sean slipped his arm under for the rear choke win.

Gustavo Falciroli vs Kazuhiro Ito

Brazilian Bjj black belt Gustavo came out fast catching the Japanese fighter’s leg kick and replying with a straight right and takedown. On the ground the Brazilian worked methodically to pass and take mount then lock in a very tight armbar that incredibly Kazuhiro did not tap too as his arm was being hyper extended for over a minute before the bell rang.

The next round was again a grappling display by Gustavo and a show of just how tough the Japanese fighters are with Kazuhiro shutting down the submission attempts and even locking in his own north-south triangle. Gustavo remained calm and passed his way to gain full mount again to finish the round out throwing strikes to take the unanimous win.

Xavier ‘Xman’ Lucas vs Matt Cain

The main event of the evening pitted WA’s top middleweight fighter ‘The Xman’ against QLD’s Warriors Realm Champ Matt Cain.

Both guys came out cautious in the 1st with Xavier utilizing his amazing speed and strikes to keep the Queenslander at bay. Matt used his strikes well to setup some tough clinch work in the hope of taking Xavier down, however the xman managed to turn out of the ring corners nicely and box his way out of the clinch.

Drawing each other into a striking fight Matt used nice leg kicks and knee’s while Xavier replied with fast hands and mean intentions. A nice takedown by Matt ended with Xavier on his back throwing nasty up kicks to create space then jump back to his feet.

Matt and Xavier showed some incredible toughness as the next 2 rounds became a standup war of straight rights, sharp hooks and very close takedown attempts from Matt that were defended well by the Perth local.

The final round saw both fighters sustain bad cuts and while throwing heavy leather before Xavier got his own takedown to side control but both got to their feet again and continued trading til the final bell. The Xman took the unanimous win after 3 very tough rounds for both guys.

Xavier 'Xman' Lucas Wins Shooto Pacific Rim Title

Huge congrats to our own Xavier Lucas on his phenomenal win in Nagoya Japan last weekend. Facing Shooto veteran Yoshitaro 'Buffalo' Niimi for the Shooto Pacific Rim Title WA's own X-man proved too strong for the Nagoya Local.

After a year of activity in the 76kg wieght division in Shooto, the International Shooto Comission (ISC) sanctioned a Pacific Rim title bout between the experienced Yoshitaru Niimi of Alive in Nagoya and the up and coming striker, Xavier Lucas of Mach 1, Perth, Western Australia.   The bout was held last Sunday at the classy Terepia hall in Nagoya. The Saturday weigh in involved the full sitting of the ISC plus a special guest appearance of Australian Shooto commissioner, Larry (Papa) Papadopolous to formally announce the Pacific Rim title bout and provide interviews to Samurai TV, Kakutogi Tsushin and some freelance journos.   After the fighters entered the ring the crowd stood to the flags and respected the national anthems of the two fighters, creating a grand final like atmosphere before the start of the bout.   With both fighters being renowned for not stepping back (Niimi is known as the buffalo) it didn't take long before the first exchange took place. After the first exchange Niimi came out with a cut above his eye courtesy of a Lucas leading jab left hook combo. The Doctor was forced to have a look before the fight was restarted. Niimi immediately looked for the take down resulting in a clinch, on the break of the clinch Niimi again tasted leather from the hands of the Lucas. This appeared to rock the Japanese fighter but Lucas was cautious going in for the kill, signalling what was to be a very long night for the Buffalo. The rest of the round saw Lucas get the better of all Niimi takedown efforts, punching out with precision each time.   The second round started much as the first with the Lucas getting the better of some fierce attack from Niimi. No backward step from either fighter and the crowd are now on their feet screaming for the hometown boy to step up. Halfway through the 2nd round Niimi appeared to rock Lucas with a flush knee to the face. Although Lucas stumbled (and later confessed to seeing stars) he quickly recovered his composure to finish out the round with some clean combinations. Clearly a 10/9 round to the Australian based South African.   The third began similar to the first with Lucas rocking Niimi with clean combinations of jabs and hooks. Again, as in the first and second the Lucas decides to stand off the rocked Japanese fighter with an intention of making sure he will not be able to show his face in public without being mistaken for the elephant man for a week or two. Relief came halfway through the third round for the Japanese fighter when the fight finally went to the ground. There it stayed for a minute before Lucas got to his feet first and delivered more punishing leather to the still continuing to come forward Japanese fighter.   The bell rang and the normally quiet Nagoya crowd rose to their feet as one to applaud two warriors who gave it all. The result, a unanimous decision to Xavier Lucas and now the new Pacific Rim Title holder.   The fans were so impressed with the effort from Lucas they were still waiting outside for autographs and photos after the interviews and post fight activity had ended.   The belt presented the victor is the oldest belt in the Shooto federation (18 years) and was formally the middleweight world champion belt held by the likes of Mach Sakurai and Mr. Sakurada, of Gutsman fame. It has now left Japanese shores for the first time.

Habby continued to return twice a year in a commitment to training and learning as BJJ was a relatively unknown art in Australia at this time. He was then awarded his Blue belt under Rickson in 1997 before meeting John Donahue (Judo BB & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BB) in 1999 and continuing his training thru Extreme BJJ Melbourne. Currently Habby owns and operates one of Australia's premier martial art clubs training pro MMA fighters. He is also the main promoter of the the very successful Perth Shooto Shows. Awesome to have another Black Belt in Perth!!!

Hatsu Hioki training at Mach1

Recently Mach1/Fightclub was lucky enough to have Hatsu Hioki (pic above 2nd from right at bottom) as a special guest from Japan teaching the MMA classes for the past 2 weeks.

His depth of knowledge of the MMA game is an awesome addition to the gym. Currently ranked number 5 in the world at 65kg and with a Pro record of 15-3-1 he brings some very solid all round skills and a huge amount of expeirence to share. Big thanks again to all involved and we are looking forward to his return later in the year.

SuperFight Shooto IV 15th June 2008 Results

Big Congrats to all competitors. Bout 1 SHOOTO B-Class Cruiserweight 91kgs 2 x 5mins Gee Cherrington V Connel Sinclair Mach1 Submission Factory Winner - Gee Cherrington

Great back and forth battle between two big boys. Standing and trading early on Gee was the most accurate with his punches and knee's before Connel getting the takedown and holding mount only to have Gee reverse it and continue the fight standing. Very close fight as the judges saw it in favour of Gee and his better conditioning and awarded him the decison.

Bout 2 SHOOTO B-Class Welterweight 70kgs 2 x 5mins Wes Capper V Matt Lincoln Mach1 Eclipse Martial Arts Winner - Wes Capper

The dynamic young Wes Capper faced of in his pro debut against a well expeirenced foe in Matt Lincoln. Trading strikes early on both scored well before a very tight guillotine attempt by Matt had Wes close to submitting. Wes managed to keep his composure and escape to standing and clinching against the corner ropes, then with an exchanges of knee's Wes caught Matt cleanly with a knee to the stomach. Matt then shot in only to be caught in a rolling anaconda choke and submitted.

Bout 3 PRO BOXING Light Middleweight 70kgs 6 x 3mins Robbie Bryant V Thai Boxing for Fitness TBA Winner - Robbie Bryant Bout 4 PRO BOXING Welterweight 68kgs 4 x 3mins Mike Hatwell V Thai Kronk Australia TBA Winner - Mike Hatwell Bout 5 SHOOTO B-Class Middleweight 76kgs 2 x 5mins Dave Tudori V Matt Burcher Mach1 Fighting Fit NSW Winner - Dave Tudori

Very hard to comment on my own fight, however i will try :-) Fighting at a much lighter weight than previously the height difference was mininal and i felt alot more comfortable with standing and working a strong series of jabs to set up my kicks and knee's. Matt and I pretty much had a Muay Thai fight with MMA gloves until we clinched and i managed to secure half guard and pass to mount before Matt rolled over and exposed his back. From there i was able to get my hooks in and lock the rear choke for a submission.

Bout 6 SHOOTO B-Class Middleweight 76kgs 2 x 5mins Jon Leven V Hirosumi Sugiura Fitness Solutions, NSW Shooting Gym Osaka, Japan Winner - Hirosumi Sugiura

Great fight between two very expeirenced compeditors. Hirosumi however came into the fight very relaxed and had all the answers to Jon's game. After a brief trade of strikes the clinched in the corner before Hirosumi scored a neat trip takedown to half guard and started battering Jon with small punches and hammerfists. While holding mount and securing Jon in the corner he continued to rain down unanswered shots forcing the ref to step in and stop the match.

Bout 7 PRO BOXING Super Feather Weight 59kgs 10 x 2mins PABA SUPERFEATHER WEIGHT TITLE Erin McGowan V Christina Tai -Kronk Australia -N.Z. Winner - Erin McGowan Bout 8 SHOOTO B-Class Catchweight 70kgs 2 x 5mins Michael Morcombe v Jai Bradney Mach1 5 Rings Dojo, QLD Winner - Jai Bradney

Possibly the fight of the night as these two guys went to war over two gruelling rounds of back and forth action. Very equal 1st round saw both fighters come out strong with Michael and his strong wrestling base securing hard fought takedowns only to have a very sly Jai escape and stand up then batter his legs with sharp kicks. 2nd round was all Jai Bradney as his conditioning showed through as he continued to pressure Michael and throw nasty leg kicks and go on for the Unamious decison.

Bout 9 SHOOTO B-Class Welterweight 70kgs 2 x 5mins Gustavo Falciroli V Taro Kusano Mach1 Shooting Gym Osaka, Japan Winner - Gustavo Falciroli

Mach1's own submission magician Gustavo went in strong against his Japanese opponent using solid jabs to corner him before attempting a nice trip takedown that off balanced Taro before he then followed up with a devasting overhand right to win by Knockout.

Bout 10 PRO BOXING Cruiserweight 94kgs 4 x 3mins Adam Forsyth v Luke Paterno Kronk Australia VIC Winner - Adam Forsyth Was a great night of action and hope to see everyone again at the next Shooto Superfight Australia.

Warriors Realm 22nd April 2008 Results

Well the boys are back from Qld and had a fantastic showing representing WA and Mach1 in the Warriors Realm Reality Fighting. Winning an impressive 3 out of 4 fights the guys should be proud!

Below is the write up courtesy of http://www.warriorsrealmrealityfighting.com/

Wesley Capper brought the ‘novelty hat’ back to the MMA arena for his pre and post fight appearances, as he took on Wayne Nicolls in another welterweight bout. Both men looked comfortable landing low kicks early before Capper hit a big double leg slam, landing in side control. Nicolls made it back to his feet where he landed a nice right hand, however Capper clinched and took him down again. From there Capper was able to mount and eventually take the back of Nicolls where he secured a tap thanks to a 1st rd Rear Naked Choke.

Grappling wizard Gustavo Falciroli took on Integrated MMA’s Ryan Mortimer in the featherweight division, looking for his first win. Mortimer  pressed his striking advantage early, landing a nice punch the had the ex pat Brazilian applauding his opponent. From there however, Falciroli looked to take the fight into his comfort zone, and landed a nice trip takedown on Mortimer. Falciroli worked to advance position, whilst Mortimer showed some good ground defense of his own as he regained guard. Falciroli showed the merits of a BJJ blackbelt as he showed some nice balance and technique to advance to the mount, and as Mortimer tried to bridge and roll to reverse the position Falciroli caught an arm bar in the transition.

Many diehard fans were salivating at the prospect of a war between the talented duo of Ian Bone and Xavier Lucas, and both men arrived in fantastic shape. Early exchanges on the feet were fairly even, and ended up with the fighters trading in the clinch against the cage. Xavier managed to make space and cracked Bone with a huge punch that buckled him to the canvas, where he moved in for the kill and secured a first round TKO stoppage. Whilst not the long battle many were hoping for, it was a highly impressive performance by Mach 1’s Lucas  and left fans looking forward to his next appearance in the cage.

It was obvious many Mortimer fans had made the trip down from Brisbane to cheer on their charge in the nights main event, as he looked to end the night on a high note for the Integrated MMA camp. He was faced with a very tough challenger in Alex Shevstov, originally from Russia but now based in Perth. Shevstov showed just how tough in the early exchanges as he landed nicely on the incumbent champion, and scored a nice take down. Mortimer however showed why he has the belt as he kept his composure and worked from his back, keeping his hips moving and coming very close to an arm bar. Shevstov managed to escape Mortimer’s first submission attempt by spinning put of the arm lock, however Mortimer used the cage to create the angle he needed to lock in an even tighter arm bar from the bottom, leaving Shevstov nowhere to go and defending his title by submission in the first round.

The night was packed with definitive answers with 7 of the 8 fights ending inside the allotted time. Fans were treated to knock outs and submissions, as the victorious fighters pressed their claims for shots at the various Warriors Realm titles on future cards.

SHOOTO 3 - PERTH - Updated Fight Card

Fights Confirmed - Shooto III West Australia

Well guys the first confirmed fights are in and its shaping up to be HUGE.....

Fighting under International A-Class Shooto rules will be Qld's Daniel Lima and WA's own Xavier Lucas. Never before has Australia hosted Shooto A-Class bouts, let alone a Pacific Rim Shooto Title included on the card.

Daniel Lima is set to face off against the Caol Uno trained Tetsu Hadairo Suzuki for the 60kg Pacific Rim Title in what should be an epic match of two tough lightweights. Daniel brings a ton of expeirence to this fight and will be looking to work his impressive takedowns and BJJ skills against the Team Wajyutsu fighter from Japan.

Perth's own MMA sensation Xavier Lucas (6-0 Pro MMA) has a confirmed opponent in Taisuke Okuno (4-1 Pro MMA) from Gutsman Shooto Gym Tokyo. Both bring an impressive fight record and a desire to finish the fight via strikes. Xavier is unbeaten yet in MMA coming from an extensive boxing background in Durban, South Africa. Okuno from Tokyo has a reputation as a brawler with a huge heart who has finished all but one of his fights via strikes and ref stoppage. His only loss comes from a judges decison in the 2006 Shooto Rookie Championship Final.

Also confirmed is BJJ Blackbelt Gustavo Falciroli, Heavy Weight Clinton Joyce

SHOOTO - Australia vs Japan plus Pro Boxing Fights

RESULTS - Friday 23rd November - Italian Club of Western Australia

Well guys another very successfull night for the West Australian MMA Scene.

The Italian Club was again a sellout last Friday Night as Japan took on WA's Best Fighters under Shooto rules.

First fight was Peter Varelis vs Flynn McLennon that started very quikly with some great muay thai and takedown attempts. After exchanging shots standing the fight hit the ground where Flynn managed to secure the mount and have the ref step in to stop the match for the fighters safety.

Next up was Travis Russel and Matt Lincon. I only caught the ending of this one but it ended quite dramatically with an up kick from Matt while on his back the rocked Travis badly before Matt locked in the guillotine for the submission.

Michael Morcombe then faced David De Conte from SA under shooto rules that saw them both throwing big shots and leg kicks in the centre of the ring. A nice double leg t/down by Morcombe during one exchange had David on his back before Michael then connected flush with huge overhand right while standing that stunned his opponent. The fight ended up going the distance of 2 rounds with both fighters exhusted. Unamious Decison went to Michael Morcombe.

In his Pro Boxing debut Mike Hatwell took on Thai Pro boxer Komsak Sithkrupon in an exciting and fast battle. Mike on the offensive throwing crisp combos while the Thai countered with his own. With the fight going the distance Mike takes the judges points in a close decison.

Gold Coast fighter Miter Almeida trained by Shooto Pro Daniel Lima faced Sean Spooner from WA. It was another exciting matchup with both guys going straight at it. Sean Spooner got the win after the ref stepped in stopping the fight.

Continuing on her unbeaten Pro streak Erin McGowan met and stopped Nongiu Sorsupinya of Thailand in a womens Pro boxing fight that was dominated by Erin and her tough style. Erin is a force to be reckoned with in the womens division and will be challenging for the Aus title in the very near future.

WA's own heavyweight Clinton Joyce took on Peter O'Shea from SA in an under 95kg shooto match. Clinton is a beast at this weight and brings his relentless attacking style to each fight. Again his opponent was overwhelmed and the fight stopped by the ref with Clinton throwing big righthands and uppercuts to his cornered opponent. Congrats to Clinton for taking Fight of the Night awarded to him by Sam Greco.

Mach1's BJJ Blackbelt Gustavo Falciroli came out more than ready to face his Japanese opponent Aroi Ishibashi. Aroi has over 30 shooto fights to his name and let his heavy hands fly early that rocked the brazilian. Gustavo responded with a t/down attempt that he quikly turned into a sweep and had the Japanese fighter on his back. Aroi looked supercalm as Gustavo worked to take his back, however that did not last long as Gustavo stayed a move ahead of his opponent before locking in a rear naked choke for the submission.

The main event of the nite saw Mach1's Xavier Lucas Vs Daisuke Okumiya from Japan at 76kg. Xavier was in fantastic shape and cuts an itimidating look as he is monster at this weight. The fight stayed on its feet in the opening round with both letting loose with clean hard combos, however Xavier was getting the better shots in until a beautiful headkick from Daisuke scored to the side of his head that had him rocked. Xavier responded well by upping his work rate and turned the shooto match into a boxing fite with 4oz's gloves. His Japanese opponent became overwhelmed by Xaviers speed and accuracy in the 2nd rnd by getting knocked down repeatedly and given numerous 8 counts by the ref. Xavier finished it with a quik flurry that gave him the win and unfortunately his opponent a shattered orbital bone.

See u guys at the next one!!!
